Apple is reportedly in talks with Sony’s partnership to support the PlayStation VR hand controller compatible with the Vision Pro.
Mark Gurman at Bloomberg, a relevant Apple leaker, reported, “Apple has discussed the plan with third-party developers, asking them if they’d integrate support into their games.”
If the reports are true, the Apple Vision Pro users can connect Sony’s PlayStation VR2 controllers to the Apple headsets. This could make the Apple Vision capable of competing with other best VR headsets.
Although many games of Apple’s headsets also support PlayStation 5 and Xbox controllers, these devices are limited to living room gaming, not the VR headsets. It also fails to provide the six degrees of freedom which is essential for VR gaming.
However, the Apple flagship is currently facing hardships with its Vision Pro. A report unveiled that the company has sold half a million headsets. Customers are not usually impressed with it and return the product. Many people can’t afford the Apple Vision Pro because of its eye-watering price $3,500. So, Apple intends to develop a low-budget version of Vision Pro with less advanced features to attract consumers.
In addition, Gurman said that it’s not only Sony; Apple has also spoken with game developers to integrate PSVR into Vision Pro headsets. Apple’s significant shift towards gaming would be a great step for enhancing gamers’ experience.
Moreover, Apple has not recently launched its own controllers. But Gurman’s report unveiled that Apple is spending years developing the “wand” or Apple pencil-like tool for efficient control. Hence, Apple expected that the wand could increase the product and confuse players.
