Apple is expected to launch next-generation Air Tags with upgraded security and improved tracking abilities.
According to the Bloomberg report, Mark Gurman said, “In May, I reported that Apple is working on a new AirTag — code-named B589 — for release around the middle of next year. That accessory has now progressed in manufacturing tests, and Apple is getting ready to bring it to market.”
However, Apple launched its first Air Tags in April 2021. Since then, the company has not featured any major updates to Air Tags. Now, a rumor has leaked that the release of Air Tags 2 will be scheduled in mid-2025.
Furthermore, the next version of Air Tags will feature an Ultra Wideband chip that debuted in iPhone 15 models. Apple prioritizes security in all devices, thus the second-generation Air Tags will have built-in speakers for sound alerts.
Meanwhile, Air Tags are connected to allegations that stalkers usually hack the Air Tags to follow victims. The speakers are easily removed to prevent alerts. As a result, Apple will introduce Air Tags 2 speakers that are not easily removable. The Air Tags 2 features include a high range of Bluetooth to access unaware tracking at farther distances.
Beyond that, the latest Air Tags will have internal updates but are not predicted to receive design modifications. In the PowerOn newsletter, Gurman also reported that the leaked Air Tags 2 will still have a coin coil battery instead of a rechargeable battery.
It is suspected that Apple intends to release various devices, including a smart home hub and Vision Pro headsets, in the upcoming year.
