The unfolding situation revolving around US President Donald Trump’s personal grievances revealed a troubling pattern of behavior. Trump has directed his wrath towards Comcast which makes the dismantling of the diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) initiative a central principle of his agenda.
This anti-DEI stance has been used against Comcast which highlights the negatives of grating major authority to someone holding grudges for long.
Recently, a letter from FCC Chairman Brendan Carr to Comcast CEO Brian Roberts came into the light. It is a conservative outlet which has been known for its pro-Trump stance. In this correspondence, Carr has announced the initiation of an investigation into Comcast and NBCUniversal.
It aims to determine whether these companies are engaged in any discriminatory practices that are against the FCC regulations and civil rights laws. This inquiry follows the executive order by Trump against DEI, with Robers asserting that Comcast is starting a broader initiative to eliminate diversity programs.
He cited substantial evidence of ongoing DEI promotion within the company and its various sectors that are regulated by the FCC. It is hard to ignore the underlying motivations, especially considering the ongoing grievances of Trump with Late Night With Seth Meyers.
In an ironic twist, Comcast has earlier lauded the appointment of Carr as FCC chair and praised his extensive expertise in the communications sector as crucial for the future of the digital landscape in America.
They even congratulated Donald Trump when he got elected as the US President. However, this flattery did not prove to be useful in shielding the company from what appears to be a targeted assault. A spokesperson from Comast in a conversation with The Hollywood Reporter confirmed that they are cooperating with the inquiries conducted by the FCC.
In addition to this, Carr earlier initiated investigations into NPR and PBS regarding potential violations of advertising regulations which both the organizations have firmly denied.
