An important question was revolving around at the beginning of last week, whether the arrival of remarkably affordable AI by China, DeepSeek would push Silicon Vallet’s major AI forms to cut back on their expenditure. A clear answer to this question was recorded as a big ‘no’!

Amazon.com, Meta Platforms, Google, and Microsoft, the giants of hyper-scale technology are gearing up for an extraordinary year of investment. They plan to do with a staggering project capital expenditure of $325 billion for 2025.

In terms of financial commitment, the urgent demand for new data centers and the energy to sustain them by these tech giants is unprecedented in the tech industry’s history. The atmosphere that surrounds this rush mirrors the excitement of the dot-com era.

The spending levels in certain sectors have even surpassed Wall Street’s already positive forecasts. Alphabet, the parent company of Google has recently revealed that it anticipates capital expenditures for 2025 to reach $75 billion. It is significantly higher than what analysts have estimated which was around 60 billion dollars.

The financial commitment of Amazon is so immense that executives have hesitated to articulate it directly. During the recent earnings call, they disclosed that in the last quarter of 2024, the spending exceeded $26.3 billion. It is a figure this suggested would be reasonably representative for each quarter in the upcoming year.

As Amazon continues to expand its e-commerce operations, it was emphasized by CEO Andy Jassy that not all of this investment would be directed toward AI or even cloud computing.

Jassy shared with investors, “We believe that nearly every application we know today will be transformed with AI integration. If you accept that premise,” he added, “AI undoubtedly represents the most significant opportunity since the advent of cloud computing and likely the largest technological shift we’ve seen.”
