The largest bank in the United States, JPMorgan Chase, as per reports has laid off around 1,000 employees despite announcing record profits. A report from Barron’ indicated that the bank is planning further layoffs in mid-March, May, June, August, and September.

Earlier in January, JPMorgan which is a leader in the US banking industry celebrated the record annual profits. These profits were mainly because of the strong deal-making and trading activities that were recorded during the market recovery in the fourth quarter.

CEO Dimon discourages work from home requests

In a related development, the CEO of the bank, Jamie Dimon has brushed aside requests from employees wishing to adopt a work-from-home arrangement. During a meeting at a town hall meeting, some employees raised concerns about the strict five-day return-to-office policy, as it was recorded by Reuters.

CEO Dimon reportedly stated, “Don’t waste time on it. I don’t care how many people sign that petition.” He focused on the need for greater efficiency and reminded employees that they have the freedom to select their workplace.

Dimon has been leading the bank for 19 years and said some employees have not paid full attention to their work while on Zoom, which he feels could stifle their productivity and creativity.

JPMorgan made good profits through 2024, and its stock price has almost doubled in five years. The impressive performance made some employees question why they are still required to spend more time in the office.

By his words, Dimon has made it clear that decisions on in-office attendance would not lie in the hands of managers. “I will not leave it to managers. There is no chance of that happening. The level of abuse we’ve seen is remarkable,” he said. Dimon’s statements received resonance from several other Wall Street personalities, including President Trump, asserting the cancellation of remote work policies for federal employees
