Google announced the Android 16 update next year for Pixel smartphones, including the Pixel 6 series.
What surprises users the most? Pixel 6 might get guaranteed Android 16 version updates for the upcoming next year.
When Google officially launched Pixel 6 in 2021, it came with software updates of 5 years. The Pixel 6 lineup was only guaranteed 3 years of Android OS updates, and the remaining 2 years would only support security updates.
With the Android 15 update last year, Pixel 6, 6a, and 6 Pro would finish their certified Android update policy period. However, the Pixel 6a was released nine months after the Pixel 6 and will be available for an update in July 2025. A report revealed that Android 16 is expected to be released in quarter 2 of 2025.
According to Google’s support documentation, the following is the list of Pixel models that will get Android 16 Developer guaranteed updates.
Indeed, if Google extends the Android updates for the Pixel 6 series, it would give another life to the device. The Pixel 6 users will thank Google for Android 16 because no one likes to use the older Android version. Additionally, Android Police reporter Mishaal Rahman said that “he sees Google squeezing out Android 17 for the Pixel 6 line.”
