Spotify officially discontinued the Car Thing device on December 9, 2024. From now on, customers will not be able to listen to music on Spotify using Car Thing. The following news disappoints many users.
A user on X noticed that the Car Thing is no longer functioning and displaying the refund options until January 14, 2025.
“Car Thing is discontinued and no longer operational.
Thank you for being on this journey with us, safe travels. For more information, visit carthing.com. Contact customer service by no later than January 14, 2025 to discuss your refund options.”
However, Spotify launched the Car Thing to all premium members in 2022 for $90. It was Spotify’s first hardware device that connected car speakers and smartphones for better music streaming. Car Thing also facilitated voice recognition and preset buttons.
The company previously announced the Car Thing is prohibited from December 9. It doesn’t mean the end of listening to music in vehicles using Spotify. Therefore, Spotify listed the alternative ways to enjoy music through “Spotify in the car” using Spotify Connect, Bluetooth AUX or USB cable Android Auto, and Apple CarPlay
On Spotify’s FAQ page, the company also recommends that users visit the Factory setting to reset the device. After that, safely dispose of the device following the local electronic waste guidelines.
Additionally, Spotify confirmed, “As of now, there are no plans to release a replacement or new version of Car Thing.”
In conclusion, say goodbye to Car Thing, and apply as early as possible for refund options before January 15, 2025.
