Formerly known as Twitter, X has announced a major increase in the pricing of its Premium+ subscription tier in all markets, including India. This Premium+ plan which has experienced the most significant price hike is well known for offering an ad-free experience to the users. Not only this but it also enhances visibility and allows greater post reach.
Since Elon Musk acquired the ownership of the platform in 2022, this marks the first major price increase. In the United States, the annual subscription has increased from $168 to $299. Also, the monthly charge has gone up from $16 to $22.
Indian subscribers are also encountering a similar escalation, the monthly fee has risen by 35% from ₹1,300 to ₹1,750. This price surge has been in effect since December 21 and for those who will be opting for the annual plan, the cost now will be ₹18,300 up from the previous ₹13,600.
The pricing for the basic tier (₹243 per month) and the premium tier (₹650 per month) remains stable despite the price hikes for Premium+. A clarification has also been given by X regarding the pricing, “If your next billing cycle starts before January 20, 2025, you’ll continue to pay the current rate; after that, the new rate will apply.”
The company has described the price increase as a way to enhance service quality for the users. The announcement remarked, “Premium+ subscribers will benefit from prioritized support from @Premium, access to new features like Radar, and increased limits on our advanced Grok AI models, ensuring you stay at the forefront of innovation.”
X also highlighted its intention to reinvest the additional revenue to enhance user experience and also to reward content creators. The revised revenue-sharing model of the platform now emphasizes the quality of the content over mere ad impressions.
